TE Connectivity has announced a series of low cost, compact pipe-mount temperature sensors that reliably measure the harsh, varying environments of HVACR systems. The IH-492 series, to be showcased at the AHR Expo from 25th to 27th January, 2016 in Orlando, features a glass-encapsulated NTC thermistor potted in a fast response copper housing for exceptionally stable and accurate measurement in high moisture and freeze/thaw applications.

The rugged sensors integrate several useful features including a 36", AWG#24 PVC-insulated wire that provides signal integrity. A radius-shaped housing minimises external environmental effects and maximises contact against the pipe.

A proprietary molding process produces an extremely dense NTC ceramic that provides exceptional and stable measurement and has passed severe environmental testing to confirm the sensors withstand some of the harshest real-world applications.

Manufactured with a high thermal conductivity copper, the IH-492 series delivers accurate measurement across a wide temperature range from -40 to +105°C. The copper construction also helps eliminate galvanic corrosion due to dissimilar metals for enhanced long term system performance.

A thermally-conductive epoxy protects the sensing element, while enabling a fast response to temperature changes. The glass coating on the sensors further enhances ruggedness and reliability.

Suited for use in refrigeration and A/C systems needing a small-profile, rugged sensor, the IH-492 series is easily integrated into a number of OEM applications. These include inlet and outlet refrigerant temperature, suction line monitoring, defrost termination and electronic expansion valve temperature monitoring.

The sensor assembly is available as standalone or with a custom-designed, copper-clad steel clip that facilitates easy installation onto the copper refrigerant tubing. Clip sizes include 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 and 3/4". Standard resistance is 10kΩ at 25°C with up to ±1% resistance and a Beta value of 3976K (25/85°C).

Rigorous testing using a number of test protocols, including liquid-to-liquid as well as low and high temperature storage, confirms the IH-492 series will operate reliably and accurately.

Pricing and delivery depends on quantity ordered.
