Rapid has recently introduced a new range of ProWave open and enclosed ultrasonic transducers and transceivers, all available in stock for both niche and high volume requirements. These high quality components are suitable for use in a wide range of applications and environments, including externally, underwater and in dusty, contaminated conditions.

The products include aluminum housed open type transducers available at various diameters and centre frequencies, from 25 to 40 kHz, featuring piezoelectric ceramic discs mounted at the point of their resonant frequency. The free vibrating nature of the open type design makes these transducers ideal for applications involving continual wave driving, such as Doppler motion detectors, remote control devices, robotics, security alarms and energy saving requirements.

The closed versions consist of an aluminum housing with an integral diaphragm, with the transducers resonating at the first harmonic. Their completely sealed resin housings mean that these transducers are ideal for outdoor use, and have applications as components in paper feeding detectors, presence detectors, counting device and flow measurement sensors.

The range also includes 40kHz open pulse ultrasonic transceivers with ceramic resonators, available in both aluminum and plastic housings which require a shorter ringing characteristic compared to standard type transducers. One of the key products in the new ProWave range is an underwater ultrasonic transceiver, which features a submerged impedance of 200?, capacitance of 2000pF and a receiving sensitivity of – 180dB.

Richard Abbott, product manager at Rapid, said: “I am delighted to be introducing this range of ultrasonic sensors from ProWave. Their high quality construction is matched by their performance features, providing excellent sensitivity, wide bandwidth and impressive durability in a variety of temperature and humidity ranges, as well as high stability rates. I look forward to adding to our stock of ProWave products in the future.”
