The ALC03 miniature in-line tension/compression load cell, which was designed for a Sports Technology application although it has application in many fields where a robust sensor of small size is required.
The body of the sensor, which is made of stainless steel and sealed to IP65, is only 16mm in diameter by 15mm long, and is fitted with M10 male fixing threads, though others can be fitted to order. The unit is fitted with a precision semiconductor strain gauge with 700 ohm impedence, operates from a 5 to 18VDC power supply, and has a sensitivity of 2.0 mV/V.

The operating temperature range is -20°C to +80°C, with a compensated temperature range of 0°C to +70°C, and the ALC03 can withstand an overload of 150% without damage. Non-linearity is <±0.25% of full scale, and hysteresis <0.3% of full scale.

The ALC03 loadcell is available with full-scale ranges of 500N, 1,000N and 2,500N (100, 200 and 500lbf).

Roy Carter of Aptifirst observed, The ALC03 miniature loadcell fills a market niche where precision force measurement in confined spaces is required. This transducer adds to our existing range of force sensors, and we supply a wide range of complementary signal conditioning amplifiers and associated equipment to provide digital, analogue and, indeed, wireless radio telemetry outputs.
