Inertial Aerosystems -  low cost angular rate sensors
Inertial Aerosystems has announced the availability of a new range of low cost MEMS single axis angular rate sensors on a small P.C. board. Designated the LCG50 and manufactured by US based Systron Donner, the range consists of 3 models giving full scale ranges of 100 degrees per second, 250 degrees per second and 500 degrees per second. The sensor is a complete unit and requires only 5V DC power to deliver a high DC output voltage proportional to rate with very low current draw. The unit has fast start up and a temperature sensor output for modeling purposes. These innovative products are ideal for embedded applications where mounting versatility is required in tough environments.

Honeywell has expanded its industry-leading ASDX plastic silicon pressure sensor family with the new ASDX Series and ASDX-DO Series, which offer pressure ranges from 1 psi to 5 psi and on-board signal conditioning. The on-board signal conditioning allows the customer to remove those components from their PC board to free space, may reduce their acquisition, inventory, and assembly costs, and minimize potential problems from having multiple signal conditioning components spread across a circuit board.

Analog Devices is expanding its iSensor intelligent sensor product family with the introduction of two highly-integrated inertial sensors that greatly simplify the complex task of embedded shock and vibration sensing within harsh industrial environments. Based on Analog Devices' iMEMS inertial sensor cores, these fully autonomous system-ready devices are one-tenth the cost and 100 times smaller than previous less-integrated, brick-level sensor modules.

MTS Systems Corp., Sensors Division's Temposonics linear-position sensors are now available with an improved linearity correction option, which makes them an attractive alternative to the magnetic linear encoders currently used in a number of rolling mills. MTS' magnetostrictive linear-position sensors are much more robust and cost-effective than incremental linear encoders and, with the improved linearity correction option, are able to offer the same high degree of accuracy.

Atmel Targets Mobile Devices with Capacitive Touch Button Controller
Atmel has announced a low cost touch sensor IC, which brings capacitive user interfaces to price-sensitive consumer and mobile devices. This AT42QT1040 device is available in a 3mm x 3mm VQFN 20 pin package, making it ideal for use in mobile phones and other handheld devices where PCB space is at a premium. In low power mode the AT42QT1040 draws only 31uA from a 1.8 VDC supply, allowing capacitive sensing to be added with minimal impact on battery lifetime.
