More efficient mining with innovative multi sensor technology
A new sensor fusion technique based on X-ray and 3D imaging promises improvements to the 3D modelling of mineral resources and more efficient sorting of precious metals. VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland (VTT) is coordinating the sensor development process through an EU project called X-Mine in collaboration with businesses, international research institutions and mining lobbies.
Components developed for gas sensors based on Mid-IR spectroscopy
In a H2020-project MIREGAS, Technical Research Centre of Finland VTT and Tampere University of Technology teams with European partners, developed novel components for miniaturised gas sensors exploiting the principle of Mid-IR absorption spectroscopy. In particular.
Comparing isolated current sensing solutions
This paper from Texas Instruments compares shunt and hall-based isolated current sensing solutions in HEV/EV subsystems. Global market for Electric Vehicles (EV) and Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) is rapidly growing as these vehicles offer higher fuel-efficiency and lower emissions compared to gasoline or diesel vehicles and use power from renewable energy sources.
Wide vin power supply for space-constrained sensors
This reference design from Texas Instruments provides an example of how to power FPGAs, ASICs, or MCUs in industrial sensor applications when space-constraints are a primary concern. The wide six to 60V input voltage range and the use of ultra-small and highly efficient DC/DC converters makes the design well suited for applications like industrial sensors, field transmitters, motor drives, and PLC modules.
Smart ultra-low power IMU optimised for wearables
At CES in Las Vegas, Nevada, Bosch Sensortec announced the BMI270, an ultra-low power smart Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) specifically targeted at wearable applications. It offers a strongly improved accelerometer offset and sensitivity performance, enabled by the newest Bosch MEMS process technology.
Farnell element 14 strengthens sensor line
High-performance MEMS gyros from Tronics Microsystems, a division of TDK, are available at Farnell element14. This expansion strengthens Premier Farnell's offering for customers looking for innovation, advanced technologies and high performance solutions.
Enhanced ADAS sensing technologies to improve car safety
HARMAN has announced a newly enhanced suite of sensing technologies, helping automakers equip vehicles with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) that allow drivers to keep an eye on the big picture at all times. From Augmented Surround View featuring multiple cameras, to the driver monitoring system and control units that manage data, HARMAN is working with key technology suppliers to create an all-encompassing suite of sensing solution...
Digital temperature sensor with SMBus and I2C-compatible interface
The TMP117 from Texas Instruments is a high-precision digital temperature sensor. It is designed to meet ASTM E1112 and ISO 80601 requirements for electronic patient thermometers. The TMP117 provides a 16-bit temperature result with a resolution of 0.0078°C and an accuracy of up to ±0.1°C across the temperature range of -20 to +50°C with no calibration.
FPD-Link III serialiser with CSI-2 interface
The DS90UB935-Q1 serialiser is part of TI’s FPD-Link III device family designed to support high-speed raw data sensors including cameras, satellite RADAR, LIDAR, and Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensors. The chip delivers a high-speed forward channel and an ultra-low latency, bidirectional control channel and supports power over a single coax (PoC) or STP cable.
