LBA Low Pressure Sensors Offer Special Versions with Highest Resolution for Respiration Applications
Sensortechnics’ LBA series offers differential low pressure sensors based on thermal mass flow measurement of air through a micro-flow channel integrated within the silicon sensor chip. The sensors are ideal for differential pressure flow measurement where the pressure drop across a flow element is a measure of the volumetric flow rate. For high performance medical respiratory devices it is essential to detect very small flows around the zero flow point while additionally being able to measure full scale flows of several hundreds of l/min. For these demanding requirements Sensortechnics now offers special versions of its LBA sensors with increased resolution of 0.01 % in the lower pressure range and at the same time high dynamic ranges greater than 10,000.

Microchip’s new silicon temperature sensor guarantees high accuracy and resolution across a wide temperature range combined with small packages
Microchip announces the MCP9808 silicon temperature sensor, which serves a broad range of applications by guaranteeing high accuracy of 0.5 degrees from -20 to +100 degrees Celsius, combined with high temperature resolution of 12 bits (0.0625 degrees Celsius/LSB). The MCP9808 comes in small MSOP and 2x3 mm DFN 8-pin packages, for space-constrained applications, and additional features include shutdown, an under/over-temperature monitor and a critical-temperature alert.

Tiny Omron photomicrosensor delivers exceptional detection performance
Omron Electronics Components Business B.V. has launched what it believes is the smallest photomicrosensor on the market, a device that nevertheless offers exceptional sensing performance. Despite its ultra-compact size of just 3.2mm x 1.9mm x 1.1mm, the new Omron EE-SY1200 reflective photomicrosensor can reliably detect objects between 1mm and 4mm away. It is ideal for a whole range of demanding applications including paper pass and edge detection in office equipment and cash machines, as well as motion and tamper detection in gambling and metering equipment and safety applications such as end of travel detection cover presence confirmation and moving part proximity detection.

Plessey releases new EPIC sensor for movement sensing applications
Plessey Semiconductors has announced that it has released the latest version of the Electric Potential Integrated Circuit (EPIC) sensor specifically tailored to detect movement. This version of the EPIC has been optimised for security, switching and gaming applications. By detecting changes in the electric field the EPIC sensor provides an output to a relay to act as a simple non-touch electric switch. The EPIC sensor can be used in both proximity mode or to detect specific kinds of movement as a limited gesture recognition device. As the EPIC sensor does not need line of sight and can even detect movement through walls, it can also be used to replace, or as an adjunct to, a passive infra-red (PIR) sensor in a variety of applications including security motion detectors.

Murata tightens PTC thermistor tolerance for overheat detection applications
Murata has announced the availability of the PRF15 series of miniature positive temperature coefficient (PTC) thermistor designed specifically for overheating detection applications in a broad range of consumer electronics devices. Believed to have the industry’s tightest temperature tolerance of +/- 3 degrees C, the series lineup comprises devices with detection temperatures in the range of +80 degrees C to +150 degrees C in 10 degree C steps.

New digital differential pressure sensors with low power consumption

Sensirion recently launched new differential pressure sensors in the SDP600 se-ries. The new SDP6x6 sensor line features especially low energy consumption, making it suitable for long-term battery operation. The SDP606 and SDP616 sen-sors are designed to enter sleep mode after performing each measurement. They wake up when a “measure” command is received and enter sleep mode again af-ter completing the measurement. The operation currents of a standard SDP600 sensor can be high as 6 mA, but the new SDP6x6 sensor is optimized for operat-ing currents no greater than 400 μA. There is virtually no current drain (

Analog Devices released for general availability the ADIS16136 tactical grade isensor digital MEMS gyroscope, which provides 3.5o/hr typical bias stability in a matchbox-sized module consuming less than 1 watt and weighing only 25 grams. The new tactical grade (below 10o/hr bias stability) iSensor MEMS gyroscope operates autonomously and requires no user configuration before producing precise and accurate rate sensing data, quickly enabling precision dependent applications such as platform stabilisation and control, navigation, robotics, and medical instrumentation.

ON Semiconductor has introduced a new CMOS image sensor that offers the speed, resolution and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) performance required to address the needs of the growing number of high-end biometric applications such as fingerprint detection as well as several medical device designs. The MANO 9600 is a rolling shutter 9.6 megapixel (MP) (3840 x 2500 pixel) device that runs at 20 frames per second (fps) at full resolution.

Melexis’ introduction of its MLX91207 high speed custom programmable Hall-Sensor delivers that next generation sensor. Melexis takes a next step into helping cars go greener by opening new opportunities for contact-less current sensing in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) and Electric Vehicle (EV) as well as in renewable energy applications. The MLX91207 is a fully customer programmable monolithic Sensor IC in standard SO-8 package. The Hall-Sensor provides a high speed analog output signal proportional to the external applied flux density. The MLX91207 enables the user to construct a robust current sensor solution with fast response times. The 91207 features an additional thermometer output.
