Should robots pay taxes?
Robot tax? A tax on robotics is as absurd an idea as a tax on pencils. As Britain’s political parties discuss a potential tax on automation and robotics, Nigel Smith, Managing Director of TM Robotics, explains why slowing down the machine economy would lead to a productivity disaster.
Large area benchtop dispensing robot
The new Fisnar F4500N Dispensing Robot is the latest development from Intertronics, which shares all the technical advantages of the F4000 range in an expanded format of 500x500mm, still in a convenient benchtop design. The F4500N is a full function robot that enables cost effective automation of liquid dispensing operations, allowing increased productivity and consistent output.
Robotic hand control demo with the motor driver solutions kit
A 3D printed robotic hand is shown here being controlled by the LV8548MC from the motor driver solution kit from ON Semiconductor.
Haptic feedback meets telerobotic applications
When implementing haptic feedback on a joystick through motor force or vibration, it can bring significant benefits in telerobotic applications. To do this requires precise control over the motor current on the haptic side and precise sensing of the applied motor current on the working end of the system. Gerard Bush of INMOCO discusses applications for haptic feedback and how they can be implemented.
Robotics boom creates components shortage
A global surge in robotics manufacturing has created a shortage of common industrial components required for other industries, according to suppliers. For example, the increased demand for bearings for use in robots has created significant delays in the supply of bearings for other industry sectors. Specialist bearings distributor, SMB Bearings has experienced this first hand and is making investments to address the shortage.
drylin E linear robot suitable for range of applications
As the automation of production processes become more important for increased productivity, igus has developed a solution with the new self-lubricating and maintenance-free drylin E linear robot, which is suitable for a wide range of applications, be it in medical equipment with high safety and hygienic requirements, tasks in microelectronics, or pick & place functions.
Cobot collaboration delivers entry-level vision guidance
SICK has collaborated with Universal Robots to develop anentry-level vision-guided cobot system for pick and place, quality inspection and measurement in the electronics industries. The SICK Inspector PIM60 URCap is simple yet powerful toolkit for creating a vision-guided robot task with minimum time and effort.

Space saving robot solution for rapid food packaging
Fold it, seal it, tape it, box it, pick it, place it - automate it. No, these aren’t Daft Punk lyrics, but the separate processes that Finland-based Orfer Oy, needed to automate to speed up its packaging operations. However, automating these processes without expanding on factory floor space was no easy feat.
