Germany will soon experience the world’s first regular DVB-T2 broadcasting of HEVC-coded programs. Rohde & Schwarz is gearing up for this challenge by making its R&S ETL TV analyser – already well-known as a reference receiver – fit for use with the HEVC standard. A DVB-T2 pilot project with HEVC-coded programs was started in the Berlin region just about one year ago. Rohde & Schwarz is participating in the testbed with its R&S AVHE100 headend solution and latest-generation transmitters.

The company is now making its R&S ETL TV analyser fit for supporting the HEVC standard. At IBC 2015 in Amsterdam, a technology preview will be presented at the Rohde & Schwarz booth.

The demonstration will show how the R&S ETL analyses DVB-T2 signals in detail, detects HEVC-coded video signals and makes them available over IP interfaces for external decoding and picture display. This allows users to easily detect irregularities, failures or quality variations over time.

A high-end instrument such as the R&S ETL TV analyser is the ideal choice for tests in transmitter production, during transmitter commissioning, installation and servicing, as well as for terrestrial TV coverage measurements. It can be used to deliver reproducible, high-quality analysis of TV and sound broadcasting signals as needed at the transmitter site or for quality assurance in transmitter test bays.

As an all-in-one platform, the R&S ETL combines the functionality of a video and MPEG-2 transport stream analyser, an FM sound broadcasting signal analyser and a generator for analogue video and sound broadcasting signals and for MPEG-2 transport streams. Its ample functionality and flexible configuration make the R&S ETL a universal reference receiver for the analysis of TV signals.
