Livingston, is now in a position to provide its customers with the latest handheld format cable and antenna analysers from JDSU. Each member of the JD720 series is highly optimised for testing and characterising mobile infrastructure, exhibiting ease of use plus a comprehensive array of features and functionality.

Approximately 20% cheaper than similar products on the market, they enable accurate verification of a base station’s antenna and transmission line systems, with the capacity to carry out both voltage standing wave ratio and return loss reflection measurements, as well as distance-to-fault and cable loss measurements. In addition, they can serve as either an RF power meter or optical power meter. The JD723C covers a frequency a range of 100MHz to 2700MHz, while the JD724C and JD725A cover 5MHz to 4000MHz and 25MHz to 4000MHz respectively.

These lightweight (2.2 kg) units are housed in compact (260mm x 190mm x 160mm), highly rugged enclosures. A touch-enabled, 800 x 480 resolution, 7” TFT colour display presents field operatives with an intuitive user interface that simplifies test processes. The trace overlay function permits comparative analysis of up to 4 traces simultaneously on a single measurement screen. The capacious internal memory allows storage of up to 400 traces (on certain models). An external memory can be connected via the USB interface and used to transfer data to a PC for further analysis. These units’ robustness is underlined by their ability to operate across a -10°C to +50°C temperature range and at humidity levels reaching 95%. Furthermore, up to 4 hours of battery life permits extensive test periods between recharges.

“We are witnessing more and more integration of optical fibre and coax cable testing activity in wireless infrastructure implementation, with modern cell sites connecting the remote radio head to the base station via optical fibre. The JD720 series responds to this with support for both the RF and optical elements.” Reinier Treur, Livingston’s Global Marketing Director explains. “JDSU is very highly regarded in the optical test sector and through this new series of analysers we expect a greater synergy will form with RF testing. This will mean that engineers can use JSDU equipment throughout, rather than complicating matters by having to specify different vendors for the various elements of site testing.”
