Delphi Automotive launched its newly designed, rugged vehicle communication interface (VCI) diagnostics tool with first-to-market on-board diagnostics generation two (OBDII) flight recorder regardless of vehicle system for quicker, more accurate diagnoses. From engine to chassis to ABS, the easy-to-use VCI has a micro secure digital (SD) card and built in flight recorder activation switch to log and extract all data parameters when plugged into the vehicle during analysis, including intermittent fault detection, the most challenging information to identify.
The Bluetooth automatic search and set up feature establishes an immediate connection of the VCI to the vehicle without the need for manual set up. In addition to being especially useful for new installations, the option for manual input remains available if required. Both options can be used for existing and new installations providing the VCI has been previously set up with the PC's Bluetooth software.

The VIN recognition feature enables the correct vehicle to be automatically selected from the VIN/Chassis number input. This new functionality can be used in two modes – automatically and manually. Once entered, the VIN will automatically select the correct vehicle to make/model/model year. From there, it will also select the correct engine code. This feature helps to streamline the initial set up process saving the technician time spent during diagnosis.

It's new rugged, no-slip design also features interactive LED display for easier reading, built-in light-to-aid for easier location of the vehicle diagnostic socket and car battery voltage monitoring to preserve battery life during configuration; especially important during ignition on/engine off diagnosis. The LED will display a warning light if the battery declines below 10.5v.

Delphi's Linked Diagnostics also works with the new VCI tool. Similar to the older VCI version, technicians connect their Delphi netbook with the VCI cable into the J1962 universal connector under the vehicle's dashboard to quickly determine fault codes and are then guided to the suspect area. To finalize their diagnosis, technicians can also link to technical data, historical data or search the internet for additional information.

This complete diagnostics solution enables switching between features to prevent a repeat of previous actions. Once the diagnosis is complete, the Delphi Linked Diagnostics System allows technicians to find the part by switching directly to the Warehouse Distributor (WD) parts catalog, Delphi catalog or TecDoc, the leading cataloging system in the European aftermarket.

By allowing technicians to link to OE data and parts catalogs, the system has the added benefit of providing a diagnostic report integrated into a parts and labor estimate print out for the customer. It will also allow technicians to take notes that can be stored for future reference.
