Improving the productivity of oil and gas drilling equipment, Analog Devices has introduced what is claimed to be the first and only MEMS gyroscope specified to withstand temperatures of up to +175°C. The ADXRS645 operates from a 5V supply and can operate at +175°C for a minimum of 1,000 hours.

Featuring a minimum rotational measurement range of ±2,000°/sec, the MEMS gyroscope prevents drill string damage by detecting the difference between drill head rotation and the motor turning the drill. By ensuring that the drill string is operating properly, the ADXRS645 allows rig operators in the oil and gas industries to extend the life of their equipment and reduce costly downtime.

The ADXRS645 is supplied in an 8x9x3mm ceramic, side-braze, through-hole, vertical-mount package. This allows the device to be robustly mounted to the PCB and eliminates the need for an orthogonally-mounted daughtercard.

The ADXRS645 MEMS gyroscope is available now priced at $975.00 each in 1,000 unit quantities.
