A dual-channel SMD (surface mount) pyroelectric sensor – ezPyro SMD Dual has been released by Pyreos and prototypes will be displayed at the Sensor + Test 2019 exhibition and conference in Nuremberg (June 25-27).

The sensor extends the digital ezPyro range, which is the world’s smallest and fastest pyroelectric sensor, combining a high sensitivity with benefits such as low power consumption, built-in power management, simple integration, a digital interface and the cost-effectiveness of SMD.

The dual-channel ezPyro sensor couples two unique, thin-film PZT pyroelectric elements - separated by just 2mm. This small distance makes it easier to focus IR energy on both elements in a simple optical and energy-efficient design. It also ensures that both elements are in near-identical environments, giving the best possible reference compensation.

The integrated digital package reduces detector cost and component count/cost whilst increasing the performance of customers’ modules.

Applications in gas detection include carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4) and hydrocarbons, refrigerants, nitrogen oxides (NOx) and sulphur oxides (SOx). The product can also be used in certain flame detection applications.

The ezPyro SMD Dual is compatible with the complete ezPyro evaluation and development ecosystem, sharing the integrated read-out circuitry and an I2C digital communications bus, APIs and sampling synchronisation with emitters and other detectors. This virtually eliminates development barriers for customers familiar with ezPyro SMD or ezPyro TO products when evaluating and designing this solution.

Samples can be ordered now from Pyreos. The evaluation kit with PC software that enables sensor configuration, signal visualisation and capture-to-file is also available.
