Sensors operate across wideband IR range
The µBright infrared sources, the latest of Cambridge CMOS Sensors’ gas sensor components for low-power, long life optical gas sensing solutions was launched at SENSOR+TEST in Nuremberg. Designed to operate across the wideband IR range (2 to 14µm) the µBright sensors can be used to continually sense gases, such as carbon dioxide, and ethanol vapours in NDIR (nondispersive infrared) systems at low power.
"World's smallest" pyro-electric sensor features digital interface
ezPyro is claimed to be the world’s smallest pyro-electric sensor with a digital interface by Pyreos. It was launched at at the SENSOR+TEST exhibition in Nuremburg. The ezPyro has a broad range of applications, including in the detection of flames, gases, movements and gestures, opening up a whole variety of uses, including the $25bn (£18bn, €22bn) wearable technology market.
TPMS IC draws lowest current & uses less board space
Melexis continues to make major advances in TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) technology with the introduction of its 3rd gen TPMS IC, the MLX91804. The device is supplied in a robust 14-pin DFN type lead-less package and, according to the company, has a 60% smaller footprint and draws three times lower sleep mode current than any competing TPMS IC on the market.
High sales expected for image sensors
A new report from IC Insights has shown that CMOS image sensors are in the middle of an unprecedented string of record high annual sales thanks to the rapid spread of embedded digital imaging technology into a wide range of end use applications that go far beyond smartphones and stand alone cameras.
Smart monitoring system reduces parking frustration
Analog Devices has collaborated with Cambridge Consultants on a cost-effective, smart monitoring system that helps ease parking frustrations for drivers. The innovative system saves drivers time and makes parking easier by monitoring space occupancy for on-street and indoor garage parking spaces without adding expensive infrastructure.
Sensors could cut millions from gritting costs
Researchers at the University of Birmingham have developed sensors that could cut millions from road-gritting costs and help local authorities get ready for colder days ahead. Unnecessary gritting of roads and car parks could be avoided and road safety in cold weather boosted, thanks to these new internet-connected, temperature sensors that have already been successfully trialled in Birmingham, London and elsewhere across the country.
Pressure sensor technology designed for harsh media exposure
The first global distributor to stock the new NPR-101 harsh media pressure sensor from Amphenol Advanced Sensors is Mouser Electronics. This silicon-based micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) device provides highly accurate pressure readings for harsh media, including vehicle transmission fluid, oil, and fuel.
Digital output added to open-loop Hall effect transducers
Digital output versions of HO and HLSR open-loop Hall effect current transducers with analogue to digital (A/D) conversion performed by an on-board sigma-delta modulator, giving a 1-bit serial bitstream output have been launched by LEM. These new components for nominal current measurements of 10, 32, 50, 80, 100, 120, 150, 200, 250 ARMS in 3 different mechanical designs (PCB and panel mounting) provide up to 12 bit resolution with 20kHz bandwidth...
The importance of tyre safety
In 2014, tyre pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) became a legal requirement for all new passenger vehicles manufactured in Europe. Maintaining the correct tyre inflation is important for both fuel efficiency and tyre performance, but this legislation is yet to be extended to commercial vehicles, caravans and trailers. Here, Peter Tillotson, business development manager of TyrePal, discusses the lack of TPMS regulation for alternative vehicles and...
Current transducers measure 25 to 100A DC, AC or pulsed
Able to be mounted on PCBs or non-intrusive, isolated measurements of DC, AC and pulsed currents from 25 to 100A nominal, LEM has unveiled the LH transducer family. The LH 50-P and LH 100-P are designed for 50 and 100A nominal, respectively, while the LH 25-NP is a multi-range model that can be configured for 8, 12 or 25A, providing the equivalent of three transducers in one device.
