Swedish-designed airbag for cyclists
A video about Hövding, the Swedish-designed airbag for bicyclists, has in just a few days gone viral with more than 150 million views. It was London-based Viral Thread that on its own initiative made a video with clips about Hövding. The video has spread with the force of an avalanche and has started debates and threads with hundreds of thousands of comments around the world.
Autonomous vehicles with most advanced safety processor yet
Real-time processor with advanced safety features for autonomous vehicles and medical and industrial robots has been launched by ARM. The ARMCortex-R52 was designed to address functional safety in systems that must comply with ISO 26262 ASIL D and IEC 61508 SIL 3, the most stringent safety standards in the automotive and industrial markets.
Puck and magnet option added to sensor range
Adding a ‘puck and magnet’ design option to its Euro-X programmable angle sensor range is Variohm EuroSensor. A fully non-contacting two-part design, the new Euro-XPK consists of: a high accuracy Hall Effect sensor element encapsulated in a high-grade sealed plastic housing and a separate magnet, available in three size options.
Deposition method for custom-made magnetic sensors
Scientists at DESY have discovered a method that paves the way for a new generation of magnetic sensors. Their procedure can be used to greatly extend the functionality of such sensors, which is limited when conventional production methods are used, so that sensors can now be individually tailored to a wide variety of new applications. The scientists have presented their manufacturing process in the scientific journal Advanced Functional Material...
Temperature measurement IC linearises sensors to 0.1°C conformity
The LTC2986 high performance digital temperature measurement IC, which directly digitises any combination of thermocouples, RTDs, thermistors and external diodes with 0.1°C conformity and 0.001°C resolution has been introduced by Linear Technology. The LTC2986 builds on the award-winning LTC2983 and LTC2984 by adding three new operating modes and reducing the number of analogue inputs from 20 channels to 10 channels.
Robust design enhances thermal imaging temperature sensors
Major upgrades have been made to the A35 and A65 thermal imaging temperature sensors for continuous automated processes by Flir Systems. With a more robust design and extended temperature ranges, the sensors provide enhanced features at a better price. The models are also the only thermal imaging temperature sensors on the market to provide standard compatibility with GigE Vision image transfer and GenICam.
Smart buoy for measuring water pollutants
All over the world, lakes, rivers, and coastal waters are threatened by high nutrient inputs. Nitrate or phosphates from waste-waters or fertilisers causes eutrophication. The consequence: Algae, in particular cyanobacteria (blue-green algae), grow uncontrollably and may release toxic substances.
Light to digital sensor delivers optical power meter functionality
The OPT3002 light-to-digital sensor from Texas Instruments (TI) is now being shipped by Mouser Electronics. Greatly improving system performance over standard photodiodes and photoresistors, the fully-integrated OPT3002 delivers the functionality of an optical power meter all within a single small device.
