Triple play: Three sensors in one package
The BNO055 intelligent 9-axis absolute orientation sensor from Bosch Sensortec is on sale at Mouser Electronics. This System in Package (SiP) solution integrates a 32-bit ARM Cortex‑M0+ microcontroller running Bosch Sensortec sensor fusion software, along with three sensors – a triaxial 14-bit accelerometer, a triaxial 16-bit gyroscope with a range of ±2,000 degrees per second and a triaxial geomagnetic sensor – all in one mi...
Colour sensor targets smartphones & tablets
A colour sensor, designed for display-equipped devices capable of detecting the colour temperature, brightness and RGB components of ambient light, has been released by ROHM. By leveraging original infrared removal technology and computing methods, the BH1745NUC reduces the effects of infrared rays by more than ten times compared with conventional devices. This enables compatibility with dark (low permeability) optical windows.
Semiconductors for wearable medical devices
How developing medical sensor interfaces using a semi-customisable System-in-Package (SiP) approach can result in smaller devices for the wearable age. By Jakob Nielsen, Sr. Manager, Consumer Health Product Line, ON Semiconductor.
Two-piece liquid flow sensor offers low-cost performance
At this year's MD&M West trade fair, Sensirion will present its range of sensors for measuring gas, liquid flow and differential pressure. With the goal of separating the core sensing element from other complex electronics, Sensirion has developed a two-piece, click-in redesign of the disposable liquid flow sensor LD20-2000T, which improves cost-efficiency while retaining performance on a compact footprint.
Swivel mount accelerometer's 14mm footprint fits tight spaces
PCB Piezotronics has added its 607A11 Swiveler ICP industrial accelerometer to the company’s five working day delivery programme. With its unique 360° swivel mount, the Swiveler is designed to install conveniently into tight spaces at lower cost than existing through bolt sensors, and is offered with PCBP’s lifetime warranty. ATEX options are available for use in hazardous area applications.
Voltage detector ICs cope with large voltage fluctuations
Torex Semiconductor has developed a lineup of compact, accurate voltage detectors with sense pin isolation and an external delay capacitance. The XC6132/XC6133/XC6134 series devices feature a delay function and sense pin isolated external hysteresis adjustment, as well as an internal 100V surge voltage protection function.
77GHz radar sensor targets harsh environments
A 77GHz radar sensor, designed for use in harsh environments, has been released by Sivers IMA. Suitable for conditions such as fog, smoke or gas, the RS3400W04-A offers an alternative solution to lasers, ultrasound or video-based devices. The sensor features small antennas, making it suitable for applications with a limited space.
Thermopile array sensor uses IR to detect temperature
Panasonic Automotive & Industrial has launched its first SMT thermopile array sensor. Grid-EYE features 64 thermopile elements in an 8x8 grid format that detect temperatures and temperature gradients by infrared radiation, providing thermal images. It is possible to detect multiple people and identify positions and direction of movement.
Capacitive MEMS accelerometers provide reliable results
A family of analogue surface mount Leadless Chip Carrier (LCC) MEMS variable capacitive accelerometers has been announced by ETLG Inertial Aerosystems, targeting markets including aerospace, automotive, energy, industrial, oil & gas and test & measurement. The Model 1510 series accelerometers offer reliable general purpose vibration measurements, with excellent long-term stability.
Calibrated sensors enhance boiler efficiency
Sensirion has extended its expertise in the smart energy market to make gas boilers more comfortable and environmentally sound. The company's completely calibrated and temperature compensated sensors and sensor solutions enable precise and reliable measurement of the air mass to a combustion chamber.
