SMP Sintermetalle Prometheus offers inductive components for drive technology applications. Featuring low-loss, good EMC characteristics and a space-efficient design, target applications for the components include frequency converters for automation tasks, wind turbines, photovoltaic inverters, medical engineering, railway engineering and many other drive and power electronics applications.

When use for frequency converter applications, the inductive components are installed at both the input and the output, where they provide power recovery and act as filter chokes, respectively. SMP's chokes are also suited for use in frequency converters' internal DC links as both single and common-mode chokes, thanks to their space-saving design and low-noise operation. Specifically engineered for each application, the components' cores consist of powder composites with low magnetostriction.

The materials feature low eddy current and hysteresis losses, contributing to the exceptional efficiency offered by the components. The encapsulated design ensures that the components emit only low-intensity stray fields. Another requirement in frequency converters, this allows other components to be placed in close proximity to the choke without running a risk of magnetic interaction with the choke. Occupying 25% less space than conventional components, the chokes feature a compact design.

Ranging in size and weight from 36 mm to 300 mm diameter and 50 g to 130 kg, respectively, the components can be produced for frequencies of up to 200 kHz and currents of up to 1000 amperes. RoHS- and REACH-compliant and manufactured using UL-listed materials, the components can be specified with degrees of protection from IP00 to IP66, dependant on the application.
