Clean plasma demonstration boosts ITER and future powerplants

Scientists from EUROfusion and UKAEA have found a way to boost the performance of fusion inside tokamak machines.

Scientists from EUROfusion including some from the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) working at UKAEA’s record-breaking Joint European Torus (JET) have discovered a way to boost fusion performance.

JET uses magnetic fields to confine its plasma, a superheated gas of hydrogen isotopes, in the tokamak. Under intense heat – 150 million degrees celsius, ten times hotter than the core of the sun – and pressure, the isotopes fuse into helium, releasing energy as neutrons. Read more.

RCD modules for wallbox and totem EV chargers

EEMPL has released its latest product series of high-quality residual current detection (RCD) magnetic modules.

Targeted specifically for residential wall boxes and public charge points; these devices add to the company’s range of automotive grade magnetic components.

The AMD-R0117F is an RCD module with integrated fluxgate IC to enable accurate real time effective detection of AC and DC residual currents and prove a trip signal to simplify leakage current detection design on customer applications. Read more.

GlobalConnect first to provide submerged cooling in Europe

GlobalConnect Group is the first colocation provider in Europe to offer the technology, submerged cooling to its customers, reducing datacentre power consumption for cooling by up to 90%. The next-GEN cooling technology was recently installed in GlobalConnect's data centre in Copenhagen and will be rolled out to all remaining datacentres based on customer demand.

"As data consumption keeps soaring across society, so does the hard-working servers that enable what we refer to as "the cloud". With more digital products and services becoming available, datacentres are now an integrated core function of our modern society. To handle the increasing amount of data stored in the cloud, technology must find ways to process more data with increased speed as well as in an energy efficient way, especially in times of energy shortage", says Luke Davies, Managing Director of Datacentres, GlobalConnect Group. New Bel Power converter for medium- and heavy-duty e-mobility needs

Bel Fuse, a global manufacturer of products that power, protect and connect electronic circuits, has announced a new addition to their e-mobility line, the BCV200-700-8 power conversion unit.

The BCV200-700-8 Combo Unit System combines a 15kW bidirectional inverter-charger, a 4kW 12V down converter, and a 1kW 24V down converter, creating a reliable and compact all-in-one solution capable of meeting the higher-voltage needs of the e-mobility industry. Read more.

AC/DC power supply thermal management patent enables more efficient design-in

TDK Corporation announces that TDK-Lambda UK’s Power Supply Apparatus patent application has been approved for grant by the UK Intellectual Property Office.

The new thermal strategy covered by the patent leads to power supplies that are flexible in their cooling requirements, keep audible noise to a minimum, and are easy for customers to integrate into their systems.

“Thermal management is one of the main technical challenges to overcome in the design of any system,” explains Martin Coates, Engineering Director, TDK-Lambda UK. “Very often, there are hot spots within systems that require a disproportionately high airflow over them to keep component temperatures within acceptable limits. This, in turn, often leads to excessive audible noise from fan cooling, and/or limitations in the system’s thermal performance.” Read more.
