Murata Power Solutions has introduced a new range of isolated DC/DC converters that provide up to 66 Watts of output power and full 2250VDC isolation from a ‘sixteenth-brick’ package. The DOSA compliant ULS series represents the latest in small footprint DC/DC Converter design and provides an ideal space-saving solution for high current designs in telecom and datacom applications.
The ULS series has a wide input voltage range of 36 to 75VDC (48VDC nominal) providing engineers with a high degree of flexibility when developing their designs. Available output voltages include 3.3VDC, 5VDC and 12VDC. The ULS series utilises a synchronous rectifier forward topology to help achieve high efficiency ratings of up to 89% that result in minimal heat build-up and allow no-fan operation to enhance reliability.

The PCB-mount open frame package measures just 22.9mm (0.9in.) x 33.0mm (1.3in.) x 10.16mm (0.40in.) high, allowing use in even the most space-constrained applications. Excellent ripple and noise specifications further enhance the usability of the ULS series by ensuring compatibility with circuits that use CPUs, ASICs, programmable logic and FPGAs. The new DC/DC converters have an operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C and are capable of stable no-load operation with no external components required.

For systems requiring controlled startup and shutdown, an external remote on/off control may use a switch, transistor or digital logic. Remote sense inputs provide compensation for resistive line drops at high currents. The ULS series has many self-protection features that include undervoltage lockout, and over temperature shutdown plus output overvoltage and reverse conduction elimination. The converter’s outputs current limit using the ‘hiccup’ auto-restart technique and may be short-circuited indefinitely.

The ULS series has UL 60950-1, CSA-C22.2 No. 234 and EN60950-1 safety approvals pending.
