New from Dengrove are the latest and improved versions of their unique Switching Regulator modules, by specialists Recom Power, which represent a significantly more reliable and efficient alternative to the traditional Linear Regulator.
Extending a broad range of input voltage and output voltage/current ratings, the R-78 Series of Switching Regulators features highly compact SIP3 packaging of 11.5 x 10 x 8.0mm. The option of straight or right-angled pins and a SMD package is available to meet board density or profile requirements, and all versions have an operational temperature range of -40 to +85OC.

Model R-78-Axx-0.5 features an output voltage range from 1.5 to 15Vdc at 0.5A max, from input potentials up to 34Vdc, delivering 7.5W maximum; and Model R-78xx-1.0 has an output range from 1.8 to 5Vdc at 1.0A max, with a reduced input potential between 4.75 and 18Vdc. Additional pins on the SMD package afford the connection of a remote ON/OFF function, which places the regulator in ultra-low ‘stand-by’ power mode when the device draws 20A or less; and adjustment of the output voltage by 50% using a single external resistor.

In the case of the R-78HBxx-0.5, this provides an output of 3.3 to 24Vdc at 0.5A, maximum, with an extremely broad input voltage range between 9.0 and 72Vdc. It boasts up to 96% conversion efficiency, with ripple and noise stated as typically 20mVp-p, and quiescent current is 1.0mA. It is capable of a peak current at 1.2A.

Completing the family are the R78Bxx-1.0 and -1.5. Suffix -1.0 denotes output voltages from 1.5 to 15Vdc at 1.0A maximum, an input voltage range up to 34Vdc, and an outstanding 15W output power capability.

Its counterpart provides output voltages from 1.5 to 6.5Vdc at 1.5A, maximum, from inputs up to 18Vdc.

In offering the ability to run continuously at 100% load without the need for derating, this unique range of converters provides a compact and highly efficient, reliable alternative to the conventional linear regulator.
