Power-One has released details about another Z-OneTM Digital IBA design win. Meriton Networks’ application is an optical switching platform for metro-area networks, that supports a range of data rates from 100Mbps to 10Gbps.

Power for Meriton’s protocol-agnostic converged-network product is provided by a Z-One Digital IBATM solution configured with five outputs, supplying currents ranging from 3 to 25 amps.

Michel Pigeon, Meriton Networks’ Director of Hardware Design, commented, “Our design team selected Power-One’s Z-One Digital IBA for a range of development, performance and cost reasons. The Z-7000’s current-sharing capabilities can be readily configured to support our mix of low voltages and high currents. In addition, the capability to easily configure critical parameters such as: sequencing, phase interleaving, voltage margining, and telemetry, via a graphical user interface really simplified this implementation and came at no additional overall cost.”

Steve Goldman, Power-One’s Chairman commented, “Meriton Networks’ application is an excellent example of a customer employing the versatility of Z-One Digital IBA to power multiple-protocol systems; their products enable the triple-play convergence of voice over IP, video on demand, and Internet access. Flexibility through programmability, including the capability to reconfigure a power system without having to remove or replace any components on a board, is one of the reasons why the Z-7000 Series is garnering so many design wins in next-generation infrastructure applications.”

The industry-standard I2C-compatible Z-7000 Series utilizes an extremely-scalable architecture that employs many revolutionary operating concepts. An extensive range of parameters, such as Vout for each POL, is user-programmed via I2C protocols, or through a graphical user interface, and stored in a Digital Power Manager. At system startup, the Digital Power Manager uses this stored information to initialize up to 32 POLs. After system initialization, ongoing bi-directional communications facilitate intelligent power system operation. Hardware-configurable Z-1000 POLs are also available for customers preferring power management without programming.

Meriton Networks Inc., provider of the optical networking foundation for 21st century networks has developed the industry’s first unified end-to-end Agile Optical Networking architecture. Meriton customers, which include incumbent and competitive carriers as well as world-class enterprises, deploy a single, cost-effective solution that addresses the issues of fiber relief and network cost reduction, while also enabling the delivery of all high-speed metro and regional services. The Meriton solution includes metro access, metro core and regional extension products, which are fully managed by a best-in-class suite of network and service management and network planning tools.
