Designed for operation with conduction, convection or system air cooling, TDK has announced the introduction of the TDK-Lambda CM4 series of modular AC/DC power supplies. The advantages of conduction cooling include no fan generated audible noise or vibration and the ability to transfer heat to the system enclosure or cold-plate. With both medical and industrial safety certifications, the series is suitable for a wide range of applications, including medical equipment, test and measurement, broadcast, communications and COTS applications.

The CM4 measures 101.6x41x177.8mm, delivering up to 600W continuous output power with a peak of up to 750W for 5s. The operating input voltage range is 85-264VAC, with linear derating to 425W from 120 to 85VAC. Up to four single output modules can be selected, or in a series/parallel combination to provide voltages ranging from 1.5-232VDC and output currents of up to 90A. Nominal output voltages can be adjusted over a minimum range of 3:1.

When conduction cooled, the baseplate can operate at temperatures up to 105°C, with derating of the output module power and current by 2.5% per °C only required above 85°C. The ambient air temperature range is -40 to 70°C, derating the total output power by 2.5% per °C above 50°C. Operating efficiencies are up to 90% (configuration dependent) and the standby power consumption is less than 1W.

Functionality and signalling include a 5V 1A standby voltage, AC OK, module good, remote on/off (individual modules or the power supply), internal temperature monitor, output current monitoring, module bias supply, and remote output voltage and current programming on the S and Z modules.

The units are certified to IEC/EN/UL/CSA 60601-1, ANSI/AAMI ES 60601-1 and IEC/EN/UL/CSA 60950-1, and CE marked to the Low Voltage and RoHS2 Directives. Input to output isolation of 4,000VAC (2 x MoPPs), 1,500Vac input to ground (1 x MoPP) and 500VDC output to ground. The CM4 is manufactured under the control of ISO9001 and ISO13485, including risk management.

All models have a maximum earth leakage current of 200µA, while complying with the EN55011/55032-B conducted and radiated emission standards. The units also meet the EN60601-1-2 and EN61000-4 immunity standards. In addition, the CM4 series has been tested to relevant sections of MIL-STD-810G, MIL-STD -461F, MIL-STD -1399 and MIL STD 704.

Product selection is optimised and simplified through the use of an online configurator, with a choice of output voltages and currents. Once the desired selection has been made, the configurator will automatically produce a short 8-digit code for easy order placement.
