For years, MTM Power's series PCMD400 has been a well-proven converter series, especially designed for applications in vehicle and railway technology as well as in rugged industrial markets. With a complete redesign of this series MTM Power provides for the frist time– with the new PCMDS400 series – converters using state-of-the-art technology, which at the same time fulfil all applicable standards for the different applications in Berlin (Hall 17, Booth 207) at the InnoTrans 2018.

On top, the DC/DC converters now offer connection via push-in cage clamp connectors. The devices operate according to the push-pull principle; i. e. the input dc-voltage is chopped by two push-pull working transistors with a frequency of approx. 70kHz.

With the help of a transformer and a secondary linear choke, a galvanically isolated output voltage of 24V is produced which is adjusted by pulse-width modulation according to the current mode principle. The used push-pull topology allows wide input voltage ranges with high efficiencies.

The series PCMDS400 is available with an input voltage of 110VDC. The dimensions of the devices which are available in an aluminium case are 150 x 86 x 55mm (length x width x height). Due to this compact design, they are also suitable for applications where only little space is available.

The converters need no ground load and short-circuit protected by primary and secondary power limitation. The devices have got an 'Output Voltage OK' signal as potential-free contact as well as remote control to place the converter in a standby mode with the lowest power consumption.

The maintenance free converters are vacuum potted (EP 1 987 708, U.S. Patent No. 8,821,778 B2) and offer reliable protection against condensation, conductive dust and other environmental conditions.

Further features are a mechanically and electrically rugged design using SMD-technology and an automatic piece-by-piece test. To ensure a smooth operation, it is necessary to mount the converters on a heat-dissipating surface. Alternatively, a version with heat sink (156.6 x 162 x 55mm) is available.
