In what many will see as “very much against the industry trend” Condor Power is extending its family of linear power supplies with RoHS compliant variants aimed at both the commercial and medical systems markets.
According to Condor’s European Managing Director Nigel Davies, many leading power supply manufacturers have gradually been pulling out of the linear space. “I put the number of companies making reasonable quantities of standard linear supplies at no more than five and this number will reduce over the next five years” he says.

“At Condor, we have a sizeable linear supply customer base who find the noise implications of switchers difficult or impossible to work with, or who cannot justify the cost of product redesign to accommodate a switch mode supply. Many of these customers will need a RoHS compliant power source if they are to continue to sell their products once the directive comes into force.” Says Davies.

“Medical systems are exempt from RoHS compliance, but we have a large customer base of medical systems manufacturers who nevertheless feel obliged to reduce or eliminate lead from their products and it is for these, as well as our commercial linear supply customers, that we will announce RoHS complaint products before the end of the year.” Davies concludes.

Condor’s “International Plus” Series of linear power supplies includes models for both commercial and medical applications. There are over 100 different models in the Series ranging in power from 5 to 288W. They meet Worldwide AC input ranges and safety standards and are recognized for their cost/quality combination and very low noise.
