Belden has added three new unmanaged low-cost switches from the SPIDER series to its Hirschmann product range. These switches support Fast Ethernet (10/100 Mbps) and have either five twisted-pair ports (SPIDER 5TX PD EEC) or one twisted-pair port and one fiberoptic port for multimode (SPIDER 1TX/1FX-MM PD EEC) or singlemode optical fiber (SPIDER 1TX/1FX-SM PD EEC).
Other features include industrial protection class IP30, a strong metal housing and an extended temperature range from 40° to +70°C. Since all versions are powered via PoE there is no need for a separate power supply or even a socket. These switches can therefore be used wherever a PoE port is available, thus allowing flexible network expansion, with additional ports for data transmission via copper cable or – for large distances or where there are strong electromagnetic fields – fiberoptic uplinks.

These switches meet all relevant industry standards and have an E13 registration (motor vehicles). They can be used to create locally structured networks with short distances to the various terminals. The two versions with fiberoptic ports also allow you to cover distances of up to 2 km (multimode) or 30 km (singlemode). In each case the optical ports are designed for SC connectors and the twisted-pairs for RJ45s.

All three switches can be mounted on DIN rails and put into operation quickly following the plug-and-work principle. Thanks to their compact 100 x 25 x 70 mm housing (width x height x depth), they can be used without any problems in distribution boxes. Information about their device and network status is displayed on LEDs on the front panel and they can also be visualized using the Hirschmann™ network management software Industrial HiVision.

With these three new switches, Belden’s proven SPIDER range from the Hirschmann™ product series now comprises a total of 29 units offering optimal solutions for a variety of different requirements. Product Manager Pascal Unterdorfer comments: “These new PD switches make it possible to enlarge networks with minimal effort, since only a PoE port is required to supply power. What’s more, this technology is standardized throughout the world.”
