C&K Components has developed a surface-mount, micro-miniature, snap-acting detect switch with extended life cycles. Designed for ATCA applications, the MDS Series device joins C&K’s family of detect switches including the SDS Series, SDT Series and HDT Series components. C&K has also become a member of PICMG, a group of companies collaborating to develop open specifications for high-performance telecom and industrial computing applications.

“The MDS Series switch is the first surface-mountable snap-acting detect switch available for ATCA use,” said David Webber, director of product management for C&K Components. “With a complete line of both surface mount and through hole devices, we are better able to serve all of our customers needs in the telecom and industrial computing industries.”

Along with ATCA and Advanced Mezzanine Card (AMC) applications, C&K’s detect switches, including the MDS Series devices, are specified for medical devices, consumer electronics, and within any application where detecting the presence of a mechanical device is required.

The MDS Series micro-miniature snap-acting detect switch is available in vertical or right angle PCB-mount styles. The switch features a long total travel of 2.9mm. Contact rating is 0.3A @ 6VDC, with a contact resistance of 200mΩ. Mechanical and electrical life has been extended to 10,000 operations.

Members of the PICMG consortium are well known for providing leading edge products and technologies in the telecom and industrial computing industries. “As PICMG’s goal is to develop common specifications, we are confident that our participation will allow us to better serve our customers needs, particularly in terms of increasing the availability of products, reducing costs and reducing time to market,” Webber continued.
