Osram Increases Infrared Golden Dragon Optical Output Power By 20%
Traffic intersections, bus stations, parking lots and other public areas require high-performance surveillance systems. With a typical optical output of 650 milliwatts (mW), the new Golden Dragon SFH 4232A infrared LED (IRED) from Osram Opto Semiconductors provides the basis for reliable monitoring and surveillance systems while helping to reduce system costs. Housed in a performance-proven SMT package, it is currently the most powerful IRED in this type of package on the market. At a current of one amp, the efficiency of this high-power component is more than 39 percent. This benefits general applications in process and production control as well as camera-based surveillance applications.
OsraThis 1 mm2 chip is optimized for currents up to 2 A making the new Golden Dragon ideal for the infrared illumination required in security applications. Thanks to improved output efficiency, more light can be generated from the same chip surface and fewer components are needed to achieve a particular brightness, resulting in reduced system costs. Using the same number of components as before, the infrared light output will be considerably brighter.
Karl Leahy, Director, Infrared Products at Osram Opto Semiconductors, summarized the advantages of the new IRED as follows: “Our customers are provided with a tried and tested product of the same size but with higher output, and they also benefit from lower system costs in their particular applications.”
