A step-up, three-channel LED driver, which features an I2C interface and pulse width modulation dimming control, has been released by Skyworks. Offering a 10-bit dimming accuracy down to 0%, the SKY82896 features a wide input voltage range of 2.5-5.5V and a high-boost switching frequency.

Minimal external components reduce the solution size and make the device suitable for LED backlighting in single-cell, Li-Ion battery-based applications. The driver is offered with over-temperature, programmable over-voltage, boost over-current and open/short LED protections. The SKY82896 allows the use of a small chip inductor rather than a wire-wound inductor, which makes it suitable for space-constrained designs. Smooth dimming performance is enabled by the device’s low current consumption. The driver supports high LED efficiency, resulting in a longer battery life.

The SKY82896 is available now in a 1.956x1.906x0.65mm, 16-bump WLCSP package.
