CML Microcircuits has announced the addition of a new Audio Scrambler and Sub-audio Signalling Processor, the CMX148, to its family of analogue two way radio ICs. This device is intended for use in general leisure and professional PMR terminals in a worldwide market.
A half-duplex device, the CMX148 utilises the host µC to perform signalling, including CTCSS/DCS encoding/decoding. Particularly suited to both the PMR markets and enhanced MURS/GMRS/FRS with GPS terminal designs, the IC features an FFSK/MSK data modem for packetised or free-format data operations. Features such as signal routing and filtering to assist host microcontroller based signalling encode/decode applications; a DTMF encoder/decoder and a full complement of auxiliary ADCs and DACs and dual synthesised clock outputs are available.

In addition, the signal processing blocks can be individually assigned to either of two signal-processing paths, which, in turn, can be routed from any of the three audio/discriminator input pins. This allows for a very flexible routing architecture and permits different processing blocks to act on different analogue inputs.

The EV1480 Evaluation Kit is designed to assist in the evaluation and application development of the CMX148 PMR Audio and Data Processor. The kit is in the form of a populated PCB comprising a CMX148 IC and appropriate supporting components and circuitry, incorporating all of the necessary power-supply regulation facilities for operation from a single 5-volt supply.

The CMX148 operates on 3.3V supply and includes selectable power-saving modes. It is available in 48-pin VQFN and LQFP packages.
