Through the subsidiary Qualcomm Technologies, Qualcomm Incorporated are providing highly differentiated chipset products, reference designs and more than 30 purpose-built platforms that are designed to make it easy for a broad array of leading brands to participate in the Internet of Things (IoT).

As a result, Qualcomm’s fiscal 2017 IoT revenues exceeded $1bn. This reflects the company’s strategy to work with customers who are category leaders and shows its ability to innovate and deliver the technologies and platforms that help them commercialise IoT products quickly and cost-effectively in categories including wearables, voice and music, cameras, robotics and drones, home control and automation, home entertainment, and commercial and industrial IoT. For Qualcomm, IoT and security represent a $43bn serviceable addressable opportunity in 2020.

“The wireless and computing technologies that enabled the mobile revolution are fuelling fast growth in connected devices, and as the IoT brings exciting change to virtually every industry you can think of, Qualcomm Technologies is present with the right innovations and products to help make that happen,” said Mike Finley, senior vice president and president, Qualcomm North America and Australia, Qualcomm Technologies. “We are successfully scaling the business to serve hundreds, and ultimately thousands of new customers in the IoT, and with our deep technology portfolio we are well-positioned to help innovators everywhere participate in the IoT opportunity by building on the depth of our mobile technologies. With our customers we are bringing the benefits of the IoT to life by providing the connectivity, compute and security they need as a foundation.”

Qualcomm Technologies will be participating at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, 26th February – 1st March, Hall 3 Stand 3E10, where the company will also highlight its leadership in 5G.  5G is exciting not only for its possibilities in mobile, but it also poised to greatly expand the opportunities in IoT, serving as a unifying fabric that will further support the connection of billions of devices. 5G technology is designed not only to provide ultra-fast connectivity to more things, but also to connect a vast number of smart, efficient, often low-cost, low-complexity devices — and keep them connected even under very challenging conditions.

Qualcomm Technologies is serving consumer verticals including wearables, cameras and appliances
“Fossil Group has doubled down on its long-term wearables innovation, designing smartwatches that fuse the latest in technology and connectivity into an attractive, beautifully designed watch,” said Greg McKelvey, Fossil Group Chief Strategy and Digital Officer. “In 2016, Fossil Group was the first to ship smartwatches based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear platform, and since then, we’ve relied on Qualcomm Technologies' solutions to bring an array of touchscreen smartwatches from brands including Diesel, Emporio Armani, Fossil, Kate Spade New York, Michael Kors, Misfit and Skagen. Qualcomm Technologies has produced key innovations that allow us to deliver the best of fashion and technology to consumers.”
