Suitable for industrial applications, GTK has announced TFT modules with integral capacitive touchscreens as a standard product. Available on TFTs with screen sizes of 3.5, 4.3 and 7.0”, the modules feature wide viewing angles, good contrast and brightness ratios and an operating temperature range from -20 to +70°C.

GTK has extended the product availability to 3-5 years and introduced an enhanced LED backlight, which provides a half-life of 50,000 hours. Additional customisation options include a custom cover lens, and optical bonding to improve sunlight readability.

"The addition of the capacitive touchscreen to the TFT module essentially brings the technology associated with consumer products, such as smartphones and tablets, to industrial products. Users are familiar with the swiping gestures they use on their home devices, and by using this technology on more industrial equipment there is less of a learning curve involved which can result in greater productivity and lower error rates, both of which are beneficial to businesses. We have already seen a high level of interest in the marketplace for this technology for quite diverse applications, including a VOIP phone screen, security equipment, and an audio console for use in the entertainment industry. The common theme for all of these was for a display which was easy to read, intuitive to use and fast to respond,” comments Clive Dickinson, Business Manager, Optoelectronics, GTK.
