JAOtech today announced that it has won an initial contract with Hospedia, the UK’s largest patient bedside entertainment provider, to renew patient bedside terminals in its estate over 150 NHS hospitals across the UK. The initial contract is worth $3.25 million over twelve months, and is the first phase in a program by Hospedia to renew its estate of terminals that will benefit up to 10 million patients a year.
The JAOtech terminals form the front end for the new Hospedia T3 system which will offer over 20 TV channels and free unlimited outbound calls, in addition to free radio, email, web browsing and games – all accessed via a range of short and long stay bundle packages. Hospedia is just launching its on-demand film service and also plan to add further services in 2010 such as catch-up TV content, audio books and much more healthcare information.

Commenting, Ben Packman, Commercial and Media Director of Hospedia said, “The JAOtech terminal gives T3 users a front end that is much easier to use, with a brand new touchscreen unit, a bigger screen and better features. The terminals are easy to clean and sterilise, with no crevices or apertures where grime can collect, or where cleaning fluids can contaminate the internal electronics and, once established, will facilitate Trusts using the T3 for clinical access and other systems, such as our real-time patient feedback service.”

Warren Kressinger-Dunn, CEO of JAOtech, commented, “JAOtech terminals give Hospedia a state of the art front end for the world’s largest estate of patient bedside entertainment units. Our terminals are based on the latest screen and processor technologies to provide patients with an outstanding multimedia experience, but at the same time meet the very exacting hygiene and noise demands of the hospital ward environment.”

JAOtech Smart Terminals have become the de-facto standard for the hospital environment, with over 35,000 installed worldwide. The JAOtech terminal range is based on state-of-the-art embedded PC technology, is constructed in Novaron-based anti-bacterial plastics, and is sealed to withstand deep cleaning using standard hospital detergents. The Hospedia T3 system will use a 15” Zivo unit featuring an Intel® Atom™ processor. Access control and billing will be implemented by Smart Card technology and the terminals feature a VoIP phone.
