Wind River have today announced that its Wind River VxWorks 653 Platform has now achieved a design win milestone of 300 programs. Used by more than 165 customers on over 60 aircraft, VxWorks 653 is a commercial off-the-shelf platform for delivering safety-critical, integrated modular avionics applications.

Delivering a stringent IMA foundation for companies to address the safety, security, portability, and reusability requirements of global avionics applications, VxWorks 653 is a part of the Wind River portfolio of trusted systems. The widespread adoption of the IMA architecture has played a key role in propelling the growth of VxWorks 653 beyond avionics systems, and into industrial and transportation systems.

The VxWorks 653 platform delivers complete ARINC 653 Part 1, Supplement 2 conformance. Backed by a comprehensive set of COTS certification evidence, it also expands the ARINC 653 XML configuration capabilities to enable a true multi-vendor platform that supports fully independent RTCA DO-297 and EUROCAE ED-124 IMA supplier sourcing. It also provides DO-178C Level A certification evidence that can be used in the certification efforts of global airborne systems, rail transportation systems and industrial systems.

Joe Wlad, senior director of product management at Wind River, comments: “With its industry-leading capabilities, VxWorks 653 enables customers to address safety requirements and drive advances in mission-critical applications. We are very proud to reach this significant milestone; the continued growth and momentum of our VxWorks 653 global customer base demonstrates Wind River’s commitment to delivering a superior product, and providing them with improved capabilities as they expand their platforms to include multi-core silicon designs in the future.”

VxWorks 653 provides a trusted foundation for IMA architectures, not only in hundreds of avionics applications, but increasingly in industrial, transportation, and space systems.

For more than three decades, Wind River has been a trusted advisor in the development of safety and mission-critical products. VxWorks 653 serves as a key technology in a wide range of commercial, space, safety and mission-critical programs, both manned and unmanned, around the globe. These include Airbus and Boeing commercial and military aircraft such as the Airbus A400M and Boeing 787, NASA space vehicles, as well as advanced autonomous vehicles such as the nEUROn.
