Electronic Specifier takes a look at the top 5 design products to have been released in February.

1) Enhanced functional safety offering from IAR Systems

IAR Systems has updated the functional safety edition of the leading embedded development toolchain IAR Embedded Workbench for Arm with new functional safety certificates. The new certificates add IEC 60730 for Household Appliances, ISO 13849 and IEC 62061 for Machinery Control Systems, IEC 61511 for Process Industry and ISO 25119 for Agriculture and Forestry.

The certification covers the international umbrella standard for functional safety IEC 61508, ISO 26262, which is used for automotive safety-related systems, as well as the international standard IEC 62304 for medical software and the European railway standards EN 50128 and EN 50657.

2) STMicroelectronics with STM32MP1 ecosystem extensions

STMicroelectronics has announced extensions to the broad ecosystem that supports development with STM32MP1 dual-core microprocessors, including new software packages and support for cutting-edge open-source security initiatives.

By providing code for security mechanisms such as OP-TEE (Open Portable Trusted Execution Environment) and the TF-A (Trusted Firmware-A) project, ST helps STM32MP1 developers address the key concepts of information security in their applications: confidentiality, integrity, availability, and authenticity verification. In addition, ST has extended the roster of Authorised Partners in embedded security with Sequitur Labs.

“We are proud to partner with STMicroelectronics in delivering the EmSPARK Security Suite to meet mission critical, STM32MP1-enabled, device protection requirements,” said Philip Attfield, CEO, Sequitur Labs. “The combination of EmSPARK and STM32MP1 makes our customers’ IoT applications and data safe.”

3) Infineon Technologies’ 40nm SLC36 / SLC37 security crypto controller platforms

Infineon Technologies has introduced the 40nm SLC36 / SLC37 security crypto controller platforms with high-performance and energy-efficient 32-bit ARM SecurCore SC300 dual-interface security chips. The new hardware platform is supplemented with a SOLID Flash memory and is optionally available with or without the latest application solutions.

The product families come complete with a full range of dual interface and contactless modules including traditional and inductive coupling technologies.

4) RoadRunner aiSim from MathWorks and AImotive

MathWorks and AImotive have begun a collaboration to integrate RoadRunner into aiSim allowing users to easily create road and 3D networks for simulation in aiSim, a deterministic and robust solution.

To enable end-to-end testing of automated driving software, a simulator must include high-fidelity environment and realistic sensor simulation. To enable this, the simulator needs precise, well-defined maps and quality assets as an input. AImotive has integrated RoadRunner, which is an interactive editor from MathWorks that lets users design 3D scenes for simulations, into aiSim, a ISO26262 certified automotive grade simulation platform, to solve this challenge. The result of the collaboration provides a user-friendly way to create various environments using RoadRunner’s intuitive map editor, ranging from dense urban scenes to compliance specific test cases.

"Automated driving engineers use virtual testing to reduce the cost and risk of in-vehicle testing. To achieve the most benefit from virtual testing, engineers need to simulate scenes that closely match the real-world, which are time consuming to create,” said Avinash Nehemiah, Principal Product Manager - Autonomous Systems at MathWorks.

5) Future Facilities 6SigmaET thermal simulation software

Future Facilities has launched Release 15 of its thermal simulation software, 6SigmaET. The latest version incorporates major developments that bring a series of new features, including enhanced views, optimised liquid cooling and one of the fastest GPU radiation calculations on the market.

Release 15 will empower electronics engineers with superior views that will enable them to quickly analyse models with photorealistic graphics, 60 fps model manipulation, and its fastest-loading surface temperature plots to date.

Chris Aldham, Product Manager at 6SigmaET said: “As electronics designs grow more complicated, today’s engineers require ever more accurate and reliable thermal simulation tools. The latest update to 6SigmaET cements our commitment to creating an intelligent and automated thermal simulation software for electronics, meeting the very latest generation of engineering requirements.
