Starter Kit for Human Machine Interface applications

Renesas has today introduced the new Renesas Starter Kit for the RZ/A1 family of embedded processors. Ideal for designing and creating Human Machine Interface applications, the RSK features everything needed for the development process. Specifically designed to reduce time to market the RSK assists Renesas customers in creating rich HMI systems in the shortest time possible.

Featuring the world’s largest on chip SRAM of 10MB, the RZ/A1 device family (launched by Renesas earlier in 2013) has been specially designed to meet the requirements of the graphical user interface developer. Set to revolutionise the market, it is able to drive screens up to XGA size without the need for external RAM, filling the gap in the market between the more traditional microcontroller and microprocessor solutions.

The Renesas Starter Kit features a development board with the device itself as well as connectors for all the major supported communications peripherals on the device, including CAN, Ethernet, camera interface, audio interface, SD card, USB 2.0 host and USB 2.0 function. Enabling systems designers to develop their own GUI directly on the development board, the kit comes with a 7-inch WVGA touch panel. It also includes all of the standard hardware features needed to start an evaluation or development, including a Segger JLINK-lite JTAG debugger, universal power supply and a PMOD debug screen to assist with application debugging.

The Renesas Starter Kit is supported by both the ARM IAR IDE and the ARM DS-5 IDE. Supplied with a free GCC compiler, there are no additional costs from a software tools point of view to start programming. The kit also comes with over 15 different software examples, which include all source code demonstrating the capability of the device and form the basis of any developments customers may want to use.

There are four versions of the RSK available: a board only solution, options with and without the TFT screen, and with and without the debugger, ensuring that customers do not need to pay for tools that they do not require. The tools are all orderable and shipping as of today.
