Psst!! element14 unveils Spy Nerd Design Challenge

 Securing data is important in a number of industriesso element14 has launched the Spy Nerd Design Challenge, giving community members the opportunity to develop security or spy-themed projects.

There is the chance to win a Spy Kit Bundle (pictured) plus a $200 shopping cart.

element14 community members will be challenged to make essential devices secure for added protection and peace of mind.

They are encouraged to create either new projects around the concept of security, or to enhance an existing project’s security.

They can work on a wide variety of security related projects, including:

  • Integrating hardware with new or existing IoT edge devices
  • Securing consumer electronics
  • Innovation around safe, smart retail
  • Building robust and secure solutions for building or home automation
  • Designing secure factory solutions
  • Creating better energy and renewables solutions

Community members can also build their own version of commercially available spy-related products or design their own.

Makers can develop spy devices with a range of tools including: Wi-Fi cameras, IP cameras, GSM bugs, wiretaps, body wires, GPS trackers, phone taps, or other types of surveillance bugs.

Design challenge contestants can get inspired by watching a recent element14 Presents episode about a DIY Portal 2 Security Camera or an episode around the Raspberry S-pi Cam.

The grand prize for the best overall project is a Spy Kit Bundle that includes an AI RF Detector, a Rabbler Noise Generator, night vision binoculars, as well as a $200 shopping cart to Farnell. Three first place winners for the runners up will receive night vision binoculars plus a $100 shopping cart.

element14 is now accepting project submissions until 16 November.
