Always-on voice activation is enabled in OPPO’s Reno smartphone using DSP Group’s SmartVoice technology.

The Reno phone includes the Breeno Assistant, powered by DSP Group’s SmartVoice technology via its BMD4 SoC for always-on voice functionality. The audio SoC allows users of the new OPPO phones to access Breeno and all its capabilities through high-accuracy far-field and two-way voice algorithms for what is described as a natural, seamless user experience.

The low power DBMD4 chipset’s always one voice activation conserves battery power as it wakes the always-on device when in sleep mode. The Breeno is anticipated to be an intelligent assistant for 5G.

The smartphone was introduced at OPPP Developers’ Conference at the end of last year. It will serve as a speech skill and smart service platform that will be open to developers and partners to integrate new services and devices and create an intelligent control centre for connected devices, says OPPO. By integrating decision making, perception, and learning skills through situational cognition and natural interaction, such as voice, Breeno will better understand the needs of the user.

Ofer Elyakim, CEO, DSP Group, said:“OPPO is on the cutting edge of where mobile devices need to be with regard to the user experience, especially with 5G emerging. . . . selection of DSP Group’s SmartVoice for the Reno is further validation of our ability to improve human-machine voice interactions in microphone-equipped devices.”

OPPO was announced as the first official smartphone partner of the All England Lawn Tennis championships. The five-year agreement between the Chinese company and the Wimbledon championship follows other sporting partnerships with Barcelona Football Club and the International Cricket Council.
