A four-channel 25.78G/28.05G VCSEL driver and a TIA/Limiting amplifier have been introduced by M/A-COM Technology Solutions. Both the MALD-37045 driver and the MATA-37044 amplifier feature integrated Clock Data Recovery (CDR) functionality for use as a complete transmit and receive solution for optical modules and on-board optical engines.

The CDRs in the MALD-37045 and the MATA-37044 are programmable and retime at 25.78Gb/s, 27.95Gb/s and 28.05Gb/s. The CDRs are reference-free and can be bypassed to support legacy or non-standard data rates. These companion devices, which can be individually controlled through the two-wire serial interface, have their respective outputs and inputs spaced on 250µm centers to maintain compatibility with standard optical interfaces.

The MALD-37045 driver features a high-performance CDR and an equaliser. The device provides programmable bias and modulation current, as well as a configurable alarm pin to flag faults on any channel.

The MATA-37044 includes a high-sensitivity TIA with selectable bandwidth to support legacy data rates, a limiting amplifier and an output driver with programmable output swing and de-emphasis. This amplifier features programmable slice level adjust, LOS threshold and an average photodiode current monitor.

These companion devices are optimal one-stop solutions for optical modules, active optical cables and on board optical engines. They can be used in 100G Ethernet, EDR InfiniBand and 32G Fibre Channel applications, providing customers with a low power solution, reducing the overall cost of optical subassemblies.

The MALD-37045 and the MATA-37044 are both available in a die form, supplied in waffle packs, whole wafers or quartered wafers. Devices are sampling now to development partners.

A demonstration of MACOM’s CDR, laser driver and TIA product portfolio will be on display by appointment in MACOM’s booth, 1947, at the Optical Fiber Communication Conference, which takes place from 24th to 26th March in Los Angeles.

“These devices further complement MACOM’s expanding optical portfolio,” said Marek Tlalka, Director of Marketing, MACOM. “The chip-set expands MACOM’s family of CDRs, laser drivers and TIA products, and by utilising our expertise in low-power and high-performance semiconductors for optical applications, we enable our customers to develop the best in class 100G module solutions.”
