Cypress Semiconductor Corp today announced that Tesla Motors has selected its TrueTouch automotive touchscreen solution for the infotainment system in Model S, the world’s first premium electric sedan. The 17-inch touchscreen in Model S is the largest in a production vehicle to date, and is the first to integrate all functional controls into a touchscreen. To Model S, the TrueTouch solution brings design flexibility and a multi-touch experience that users expect even in challenging conditions.
The touchscreen in Model S seamlessly integrates multimedia apps and content, sound system, communication and HVAC controls, navigation, and vehicle data into one central location. Cypress’s automotive TrueTouch solution provides unmatched flexibility providing the ability to track ten fingers at once.

“To power the 17-inch touchscreen we needed a partner who could handle the challenge of supporting the largest touchscreen in the automotive industry with flexible, reliable and durable architecture,” said Craig Carlson, vice president of software and electrical integration at Tesla. “Cypress has shown tremendous leadership in the touch market and has worked diligently to meet our design requirements. From the beginning, Cypress’s TrueTouch solution has delivered great accuracy, speed and linearity.”

“Tesla’s Model S is a truly revolutionary vehicle, and we’re excited to have our automotive TrueTouch solution power the centerpiece of its interior,” said Hassane El-Khoury, executive vice president of the Programmable Systems Division at Cypress. “The Model S touchscreen provides an outstanding showcase for what TrueTouch can do. It demonstrates the solution’s flexibility in creating the world’s first fully-integrated and largest infotainment system touchscreen, while highlighting its best-in-class user experience.”
