Offering designers the safety and security of ECC memory, the conga-MA3E COM Express Mini Type 10 module has been released by congatec AG. Based on the Intel Atom E3800 series of processors, the module succeeds the companies conga MA3. To correct errors, ECC modules check and adjust the data flow. The correction mode of ECC modules differ from the ‘parity bit’, as it detects and corrects both single and double bit errors.

With a faster Intel HD graphics engine than the previous generation, both the conga-MA3 and the conga-MA3E feature the latest Intel Atom single chip design and an L2 cache which can be shared by multiple cores. The modules, which have an ultra-dense design, offer an onboard MLC or SLC eMMC SSD and soldered DDR3L memory (ECC for the conga-MA3E), with support for up to 8GB. With 1.91GHz and 10W maximum power consumption, both modules support commercial and industrial temperature rated versions ranging from the entry-level single-core to the quad-core Intel Atom E3845.

For high data security, the eMMC driver supports an integrated wear levelling feature. Enabling the parallel decoding of multiple high-resolution full HD videos, the improved graphics supports DirectX 11, OpenGL 3.2, OpenCL 1.2 and high-performance, flexible hardware. The processor natively supports up to 2560x1600 pixels with DisplayPort and 1920x1200 pixels with HDMI. Two independent display interfaces can be connected using the modules, including one via the 24-bit LVDS output.

Enabling fast data transmission with low power consumption, the modules provide native USB 3.0 support. The modules provide one USB 3.0 Super Speed port and six USB 2.0 ports. To enable fast and flexible system extensions, four 5Gb/s PCIe 2.0 lanes and two SATA interfaces operating up to 3Gb/s are offered. Software compatibility is aided by the Intel Gigabit Ethernet Controller I210. Alongside Intel High Definition Audio, ACPI 5.0, an I2C bus and a LPC bus are provided for easy integration of legacy I/O interfaces.

“COM Express Type 10 continues to be a growing module segment and ECC memory support further enhances congatec’s competitive position in applications that require this support. We see telecommunications, financial and banking applications requiring ECC memory support in order to increase overall system reliability. Due to its small form factor and increased reliability, the conga-MA3E will certainly open some new doors for us”, comments Dan Demers, Director of Marketing, congatec.
