Powered by the 4th gen Intel Core processor and the Intel Atom SoC, COM Express Type 2 modules have been released by ADLINK Technology. The Express-HL2 and cExpress-BT2 modules are designed to replace older generations when they near end-of-life status. According to the company, the Intel silicon based modules extend the service life of Type 2-based systems by seven years.

Measuring 125x95mm, the Express-HL2 module is available in SKUs running the 4th gen Intel Core i7/i5/i3 processor with a Mobile Intel QM87 Chipset and SKUs running the Intel Celeron processor with a Mobile Intel HM86 Chipset. Allowing for development rich video applications, the module supports up to 16GB dual channel DDR3L at 1600MHz and dual channel LVDS and VGA for two independent displays.

Featuring an Intel Atom processor E3800 series or Celeron processor with a power envelope below 10W, the cExpress-BT2 module measures 95x95mm. Suitable for small-size and low power consumption applications, the module provides rich I/O including two PCIe x 1 Gen2, 32-bit PCI 2.3, one SATA 3Gb/s port and one PATA IDE port (optional 2 SATA).

Allowing system integrators to accelerate carrier board design and software verification, the Type 2 modules are offered with ADLINK’s complete set of technical and engineering tools, including the COM Express Type 2 Starter Kit and a debug module for POST, BIOS and Board Management Controller. Enabling users to administer remote monitoring and control tasks and access state-of-the-art cloud services, the tool set also includes Smart Embedded Management Agent. The modules are offered with standard support for Windows and Linux (32 and 64-bit) and extended support for WES 7/8, WEC 7/8 and VxWorks, providing flexibility. The requirements of industrial applications are cost effectively met by the footprints and computing powers of the modules.

“ADLINK is dedicated to exploring new form factors and technologies, but we also see the value in supporting and enhancing popular, existing form factors so that our customers and end-users can get the most out of their established installations,” said Henk van Bremen, Director of ADLINK’s Module Computing Product Segment. “At present, ADLINK is the only company in the market that provides Type 2 modules with both 4th gen Intel Core and the latest Intel Atom processors. ADLINK continues to support COM Express Type 2 so that our customers can upgrade their systems using existing designs without the need to redesign their carrier boards, providing them maximum benefit from their investment.”
