Reducing electromagnetic interference (EMI) and power consumption, the SN65LVDS822 FlatLink LVDS receiver has been introduced by Texas Instruments. The company has claimed that this is the industry’s first LVDS receiver IC to support a 4MHz pixel clock in printers, copiers, digital cameras, fuel pump displays and appliances with small LCD panels.

When compared to competitive devices, the LVDS receiver IC accepts a lower pixel clock, enabling 30% longer video transmission distance, with 60% fewer wires to reduce EMI and power consumption. The SN65LVDS822 receives a low pixel clock from 4-54MHz to enable panel resolutions from 160x120 (QQVGA) to 1024x600 (WUXGA) at 60 frames per second with 24 bit-per-pixel colour (until now this required parallel LVTTL/LVCMOS interfaces). Additionally, the IC supports 1.8-3.3V CMOS signals to meet the requirements of a variety of LCD panels.

Supporting both 4:27 and 2:27 deserialisation, the SN65LVDS822 provides the flexibility to further reduce wire count. With 14x sampling, the 2:27 mode enables a 40% lane count reduction to two data lanes for systems with tight space constraints. The LVDS receiver offers engineers greater board design flexibility thanks to the bus swap feature and reduced LVDS swing. The 3-way selectable CMOS slew rate control reduces EMI by matching the slew rate with the needs of the application.

Texas Instruments also offers the SN65LVDS822RGZEVM evaluation module for a suggested retail price of $99 (USD) and an IBIS model for verifying board signal integrity requirements. Technical support is also available on the Interface Forum in the TI E2ECommunity.

Available now in a 7x7mm 48-pin QFN package, the Texas Instruments SN65LVDS822 LVDS receiver IC has a suggested retail price of $2.81 (USD) in 1,000 unit quantities.

Additionally, the IC supports 1.8-3.3V CMOS signals to meet the requirements of a variety of LCD panels.
