Volex Supplies Power Cable Assemblies For Next Generation Sony Blu-ray Disc Player

Volex has been supplying powercord assemblies to Sony since the year 2000, in an ongoing agreement which sees the cable assemblies group deliver around 23% of Sony’s powercord unit requirements and ship 21 million components units for products such as the LCD TV range, digital cameras, digital camcorders, PCs, audio and DVD products. The new agreement to provide power supply cord sets and AC power inlets for the global rollout of the 5G Blu-ray disc player will see Volex produce around 4.5 million units annually, with an 80% share of the supply.

When it came to selecting the appropriate majority supplier for the powercord assemblies, quality assurance and environmental concerns were amongst the key considerations for Sony.
