The new 254089HB surface-mountable 6-pin connectors for subscriber identity module (SIM) cards feature a side-entry design for mating SIMs on the long side of the card. Consequently, these connectors are particularly well-suited for use in applications facing very tight space constraints inside miniaturized portable electronic devices or in stationary systems featuring a special shape.
The extremely compact connector design – with a length of 32.4 mm (including the SMT solder tabs), a width of 16.4 mm, and a low-profile overall height of just 2.35 mm – was achieved using ultramodern insert molding production technology (employing molded contacts). An integrated switch ensures reliable card detection, and four side-mounted SMT solder tabs provide an additional basis for sturdy anchoring on the PCB. The service life of this robust card connector, which is completely enclosed in a housing, is specified at 5,000 mating cycles. Additional technical features include the operating temperature range from –40 °C to +105 °C, the maximum initial contact resistance (for the plug contact) of 40 mΩ, the insulation resistance of 1000 MΩ and the dielectric strength of up to 500 V AC for one minute. This card connector is configured for voltages of 50.0 V DC at a maximum of 1.0 A per pin.

Due to their sufficiently large and flat surfaces, these side-entry SIM card connectors are suitable for use with automatic pick-and-place systems. They are supplied in tape-and-reel packaging in volumes beginning at a minimum order of 80,000 pieces.
