MACOM accelerates higher capacity backhaul with E-Band Tx & Rx modules
MACOM Technology Solutions has announced that it has commenced sample shipments of its highly integrated E-Band transmitter (Tx) and receiver (Rx) modules, the MAMF-011057 and the MADC-011014, designed to enable the emerging wideband cellular backhaul and 5G millimeterwave market needs. Helping to accelerate the evolution to higher capacity backhaul, MACOM’s surface mountable E-Band Tx and Rx modules simplify the design and manufacturing of...
Wireless study predicts solutions for 5G cellular
The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), comprising seven telecommunications standard development organisations, will soon choose among channel models to adopt as testing standards for 5G cellular systems. However, a new study by Theodore (Ted) S. Rappaport, the Ernst Weber/David Lee professor of electrical engineering at NYU Tandon School of Engineering and founding director of NYU WIRELESS, suggests that the three-parameter "alpha-beta-ga...
5G edges ever closer
Solar powered drones could play a key role in delivering global 5G wireless communications in the years ahead. The feasibility of this was demonstrated this week when the Solar Impulse 2, a Swiss experimental long range aircraft powered by solar panels, flew from Hawaii to California in 62 hours – a journey of 4,000 miles.
5G wireless research to be showcased in Brussels
The quest for a 1,000-fold capacity enhancement alongside higher data rates for 5G wireless networks is the subject of intense international academic and industrial research. Two engineers from the University of Bristol's Communication Systems and Networks (CSN) group, who are leaders in this field, have been invited to discuss the future of wireless communications in Brussels and Brooklyn (US).
KT and NEC test 5G solution using E-band spectrum
NEC announced the successful completion of a PoC trial with KT for a 5G wireless backhaul solution that utilizes E-Band spectrum (70-80GHz). The PoC was conducted at Phoenix Park Ski World in PyeongChang, South Korea, using KT's commercial mobile network infrastructure. KT aims to launch 5G trial services in 2018. This PoC is based on a collaboration agreement in the field of 5G networks signed between KT and NEC in August 2015.
Communication between vehicles in a 5G world
Researchers from the Universitat Politècnica de València have devised and configured a the latest 5G radio access system for intervehicular communication. The system is intended to improve road safety in a future scenario where 5G technologies are the norm. A continuation of the METIS project, METIS-II is an international project funded by the European Commission under Horizon2020 to research the efficient integration and use of var...
Company completes field trial for its 5G system
SK Telecom has announced that it, together with Samsung Electronics, had successfully tested its 5G system at 28GHz in the outdoor environment. 5G Millimeter Wave technologies applied to the test include transmitter, receiver and antenna technologies designed to effectively transmit radio signals in the 28GHz band, as well as 3D beamforming, which is the key technology that compensates radio propagation path loss in the higher frequency bands cau...
