XP Power announced today the launch of their AHM series of highly efficient external AC-DC power supplies aimed at a broad range of medical and IT applications. The series comprises 5 single-output ranges of 85, 100, 150, 180 or 250 Watt output, and provides the popular nominal outputs from +12 to + 48 VDC.
All units are convection cooled removing the need for any internal forced air flow. Not only does this make the units more reliable, but maintains their quiet operation. This being especially important for healthcare equipment sited close to a patient.

These Energy Efficiency Level V rated units are highly efficient, typically 92%, and meet the stringent requirements of global energy efficiency standards both in terms of average power efficiency and less than 0.5 W no-load power consumption. By selecting the AHM series, manufacturers will ensure their products comply with standards such as EISA2007, CEC2008 and the European ErP Directive. In addition, the units meet the internationally recognized safety approval standards for medical equipment IEC/UL/EN/CSA 60601-1 and IT and commercial equipment IEC/UL/EN/CSA 60950-1. They also conform to the medical EMC standard, IEC60601-1-2:2007, meeting level B radiated/conducted emissions to EN55011/22 and the relevant EN61000 immunity standards.

Due to the high efficiency of the units it has been possible to design the enclosure with a smooth surface. This allows it to be easily wiped down in a hospital environment. Along with this the enclosure has an IPX1 rating that protects against ingress of condensation and falling water droplets.

Class I construction is standard on all models, with the 85W and 100W models also available with Class II construction and connector options of IEC320-C14, IEC320-C8 or IEC320-C18. An optional input connector retention clip is also available across the range.
