Power-One has introduced the F4804A input filter. This RoHS-compliant product is designed to minimize the conducted and radiated emissions generated by switch-mode DC-DC converters to facilitate meeting FCC and EN55022 Class B conducted emissions requirements. When compared to previous generation F4804 products, the F4804A offers increased common-mode attenuation, improved elevated-ambient-temperature performance, and a lower-profile package.

The F4804A provides up to four amps of input filtering (0-80V) for DC-DC converters, including the latest generation of sixteenth-brick-footprint products. In addition to common mode noise reduction components, the F4804A is provisioned with a differential LC-filter stage, which virtually guarantees compliance with conducted noise standards across the frequency range from 150 kHz to 30 MHz, including the fundamental switching frequency and its harmonics. Test results show headroom of 15-20 dB for conducted noise quasi-peak levels, in relation to Class B requirements.

A single filter can be used with multiple converters, and when used in accordance with the applications guidelines described in the data sheet, does not require airflow and/or derating at elevated ambient temperatures up to 85°C. A compact SMT footprint (1.0 x 0.75 inches, 25.4 x 19mm) saves space and simplifies PCB layout.

Pricing is $9 each in quantities of 1000. The F4804A is available in RoHS-compliant lead free and lead-solder-exempt versions, and meets UL60950 and IEC/EN60950.
