Global smart battery manufacturer, Ultralife, has released its new CR123A battery products, specifically designed for the wireless security and home automation markets. The batteries, supporting a number of portable and wireless applications, will provide some of the highest performance of this style in the industry.

Professional battery manufacturer Accutronics, an Ultralife company, will be distributing on behalf of Ultralife in UK and European markets.

Accutronics will offer several Ultralife CR123A models to fit various applications. The CR123A, CR17335, CR17335-10 and CR17335SE, manufactured in China to supply the European and Asian markets, are available in either a 1500mAh or 1800mAh capacity.

John Diggory, Product General Manager 9V/3V of Ultralife Corporation, explained: “CR123A batteries were initially developed for SLR cameras but are increasingly finding use in wireless security and home automation applications. The wireless security and home automation market is expected to reach $32 billion in 2022 and will reach more than 50% of homes in the United States.

“We’re building on our 25-year history of supplying lithium 9-Volt batteries for home safety and security and applying our expertise from the defence and medical markets to this new, growing market.

“The improved internal spiral construction developed by our battery experts provides a higher capacity than is currently available in similar products on the market. When used in a security system for an automated home, this capacity means that the battery can meet the needs of the application, making it reliable and reducing the need for replacement by the homeowner.”

Not only can the batteries be used for home automation equipment, they can also be used in the growing trend for connected devices in industrial environments. With the Internet of Things (IoT) taking hold across a range of sectors, the batteries can be used in connected electronic devices that feed back information to the plant manager.

Just as in the home automation market, it is essential that these batteries are reliable and high quality, as a sudden malfunction could result in the loss of essential data from the connected device.
