A non-isolated PoL DC/DC converter has been released by Murata Electronics. The OKDx-T/40 is a 40A, 132W digital DC/DC converter with a typical efficiency of 97.2%. Through the integrated PMBus interface, power management features not previously available in analogue PoL converters are enabled

With the I2C bus, engineers can monitor critical system-level performance requirements such as Vin, Iin, Vout, Iout and operating temperature. The PMBus can also be used by engineers to set warning flags for temperature, Vin, Vout, and Iout, and customise parameters such as Vin turn on/off thresholds, output over voltage protection, output current limit and ramp up characteristics.

The converter provides a 4.5-14VDC input voltage range and a 0.6-3.3VDC programmable output voltage range. To assist engineers in designing systems, the converter is offered with an optional GUI. Features include digital current sharing (full power, no derating), non-linear transient response, optimised dead time control, synchronisation and phase spreading.

The OKDx-T/40, available in a through-hole, single-in-line or surface mount package measuring 30.85x20.0x8.2mm, is suitable for use in telecommunications, networking and distributed power applications.
