An operational amplifier, claimed to be the industry’s most robust, has been introduced by Analog Devices. The ADA4177-2 dual-channel amplifier integrates input protection against signal excursions of 32V beyond the supply rails and 70dB of rejection for EMI above 1GHz.

The device meets the demand for a sensor interface amplifier with precision, linearity and environmental immunity for mission critical process control, defence, aerospace and motor control applications as well as multi-channel data acquisition instrumentation designs.

The amplifier is designed for where inputs are exposed to over-voltage and/or EMI, when improved precision or protection in the signal chain is required. To protect signal integrity while maintaining system precision and linearity, the ADA4177-2 integrates input OVP and EMI filters. This removes the need for external protection and filtering components, reducing BOM cost and circuit board footprint, while improving time-to-market.

At 1kHz, the ADA4177-2 has a typical bandwidth of 3.5MHz and 8nV/√Hz voltage noise, while consuming only 500µA typical at 25°C with ±15VDC nominal power supplies. The amplifier is specified to operate from a -40 to +125°C temperature range.

The ADA4177-2 can operate alongside ADI’s switches and multiplexers, such as the ADG5412F and ADG5409, or with SAR ADCs such as the AD7980 and AD7988.

Offered in SOIC-8 and MSOP-8 packages, the ADA4177-2 is priced at $1.53 each in 1,000 unit quantities.
