Murata has today announced two new open frame, convection cooled AC-DC power supplies, the 40 Watt MVAD040 and the 65 Watt MVAD065. The new MVAD040 and MVAD065 power supplies are ideally suited for a wide range of high volume applications including medical and healthcare appliances, data storage and networking, and industrial factory automation systems.

With a low profile, 1U compatible 1.3 inch height (50.8 x 101.6 x 33.02 mm), the low power MVAD series is packaged in the industry standard 2 x 4 inch format. Not requiring additional heatsinking or forced air cooling to operate at full output power, the MVAD040 and MVAD065 power supplies are up to 90% efficient.

David German, Director of Product Marketing at Murata, comments: “These 40W and 65W open frame power supplies expand Murata's open frame product line, offering output power levels ranging from 40W up to 400W. The introduction of these products further positions Murata Power Solutions as an industry leader in convection cooled power.”

Meeting ErP and Energy Star requirements, the MVAD series feature a no load power consumption of less than 0.3 W. With an operating temperature startup as low as -20°C, the MVAD series accepts the universal input voltage range from 90 to 264 VAC and each model is available with a + 12, + 24, or +48 VDC output. The MVAD065 features remote sense, which compensates for lead losses up to 0.4 VDC at the load point.

The supplies comply with the stringent demands of the internationally recognized 3rd edition medical safety standard IEC/EN 60601-1: 2006. They also meet the IEC/EN60950-1 safety standard for IT equipment. The MVAD series has an MTBF of one million hours, this being at least twice the MTBF of similar competing devices available on the market today.
